In Search of the Dalai Lama

 - By Duane Dahl, creator of EarthLab

A search (or a quest) often involves either a figurative or actual journey, the accomplishment of a worthy goal, and the subordination of selfish aims in favor of benefiting the members of one's family, community, or country. In folklore this journey usually involved the accomplishment of some fantastic goal, such as seeking out and destroying an evil dragon, or a big green ogre travelling cross-country with a talking donkey to save a princess (oh wait, that's Shrek I'm thinking of). Having successfully contested with the dragon or having overcome a series of tests or obstacles, the searcher or hero recovers a treasure, or sacred object, or, simply, knowledge, then returns homes to share the good fortune with the community. Since I'm beginning to sound a lot like Joseph Campbell (or Jeffrey Katzenberg), let me leapfrog ahead and reveal that the dragon we have to deal with in modern times is climate crisis. EarthLab exists to provide maps and strategies for contesting with and subduing the oncoming dragon.

Duane Dahl Biography

Duane Dahl, the creator of EarthLab was raised in San Diego County with siblings in a clan made up of six brothers and sisters. His interests in childhood and adolescence were baseball—and more baseball. His early professional life consisted of promoting entertainment events and concerts. Those years were spent traveling around the USA, promoting everything from large scale rock concerts to sporting events. In the late eighties Duane moved to the Seattle area, and not long thereafter met his lovely wife Cindy. While living in Seattle, Duane worked in the sports arena management business, until the internet revolution in the mid to late nineties – which has kept him busy the past several years with his sites Kiss.com, Perfectmatch.com and TalentMatch.com. Duane's long time interest in music and entertainment has continued with his interest in Envisioneer Records a Nashville based record label and publishing group.

Duane and Cindy have two children - a nine year old son, "the supreme builder of all things BIONICLE," and a three year old boy. Besides being an avid sports fan, Duane reports that he is particularly interested in gadgets and new technology – and has gained a recent affinity for fly fishing, river rafting and golfing. He enjoys good wine and an occasional cigar, and his musical taste range from the Rolling Stones to Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado to Tim McGraw. He further reports that he dislikes any food that's green, working in the garden, and Rush Limbaugh. Perhaps his continued involvement with EarthLab will influence a change in at least a couple of those categories.
