Before You Leave On Vacation…
Here are a few things you can do before you leave on vacation that will reduce your home's drag on the environment while you're gone.
- Put your newspaper delivery on hold.
- Switch off your air conditioning or heat.
-
Unplug small and large appliances including TVs and cable converter boxes. They draw power even when they're switched off. An easy way to accommodate this is to plug all such appliances into surge protector strips so that many of them can be disconnected at once.
-
Turn off your water heater. With no one around taking showers or washing dishes, there's no point in spending the money and energy to heat water while you're gone.
-
If you'll be driving to your destination, make sure your vehicle is well-maintained before you leave. Be sure your air filter is clean and your tires inflated properly. This can improve fuel economy, which prevents pollution and saves you money.
